Fire and Industry

 

     Courses for fire and industry follow the NFPA standards for Rope Rescue and Confined Space qualifications for teams and individuals. These are spelled out in NFPA Standards 1670 and 1006. Teams which do not require training to these standards may opt for the basic rigging course. All courses include practical skill testing and written exams. A certificate attesting to the level attained is issued upon successful completion.

Advanced Rescue Technician

 

Location:

 

Calgary Fire Department Academy:  Calgary, Alberta.

 

 

Course options:

 

Basic Rigging:

     A one week course covering basic rigging skills including, team safety, knots, auxillary equipment, anchors, belays, simple mechanical advantages, lowering and raising systems, edge protection, patient packaging, team and scene management, personal edge kits. Courses can be tailored to meet your specific needs

 

Level I: Fire and Industry

    A one week course adhering to the NFPA 1006 - 2008 standard for the new Level I skills. This covers all of the basic rigging course curriculum and also includes multi-point anchors, taglines, redirects, compound mechanical advantage systems, patient packaging, low angle raising and litter attendants, ascending and descending a fixed rope and communications.

 

Level II: Fire and Industry

   Level II includes all of the Level I training and load distributing anchors, highlines, knot passes, high angle litter attendants, use of the Arizona Vortex, offsets, pickoffs, individual and stretcher, lead climbing, team leader skills and communications.  

 

Advanced Training: Fire and Industry

   Advanced training is available for established teams if you would like to improve your current skill levels. Training is tailored to meet the needs of your team members and may include training on the Arizona Vortex, edge kits, new equipment, offsets and highlines, and so on. Training for use of the Petzl EXO escape device is also available.
